How to apply for a marriage license
Couples wishing to get married in Florida can apply for a license in person at our office:

In addition to completing the online application, couples must schedule an appointment with our office. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The marriage license is valid only in the state of Florida for a period of 60 days. Once issued, Florida residents must wait three days to marry, unless the couple attends a premarital course from this list of registered providers and presents the certificate of completion when applying for their license. There is no waiting period for non-Florida residents. The Clerk’s Office also performs marriage ceremonies for a fee of $30.00. Appointments are necessary.
After the marriage ceremony, the officiant (e.g., assistant clerk, pastor, priest, minister, notary public, etc.) must complete and sign the marriage license. The marriage license must then be delivered or mailed to our offices to be recorded in the Official Records. A certified copy of the marriage license will be returned to the couple once registered. Additional certified copies are available for purchase for $3 per marriage license.
Request a marriage license
The first step in obtaining a marriage license is to apply using our Marriage Application Kiosk link .

- Florida law requires all couples to read the Family Law Manual before applying for a license. Confirm that both applicants have read the Florida Family Law Manual by clicking “Accept.”
- Complete the required information for each applicant.
- Click submit when all fields are complete.
- After submitting, you will receive a confirmation number. Save this number for your in-person appointment.
2. Make an appointment
After you have submitted an application using our marriage application kiosk, you can schedule an in-person appointment. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Schedule your appointment here:
- Select “Marriage” and then the marriage service you need. *Please note: Florida residents who have not completed a 4-hour premarital preparation course with an approved provider have a mandatory 3-day waiting period between license issuance and effective date. Florida residents who have not completed this course SHOULD NOT apply for the “Marriage Package.” There is no waiting period for non-Florida residents.
3. What to bring
Both parties must prove the following:
- ID:
- Driver’s license issued in the United States.
- Federal or state identification card; either
- Passport showing your name and date of birth (birth certificates and green cards are not accepted).
- Both parties should read the Family Law Manual, English and Spanish versions, before obtaining a marriage license.
- If either person was married before, the way the last marriage ended and the exact date it ended are needed. Copias del acta de defunción, sentencia definitiva de divorcio o nulidadare not required .
*Both parties must be present when applying for a marriage license, sign the application form, and take an oath as to the truthfulness of the information provided. The marriage ceremony must take place within 60 days.
4. Marriage ceremony
To get married in the Osceola County Courthouse, please note: There is a MANDATORY 3-day waiting period for Florida residents who have not completed a 4-hour premarital preparation course from an approved provider. There is no waiting period for non-Florida residents. Florida residents who have not taken the approved premarital course will be able to schedule an appointment to return in 3 business days.
- If you are getting married at the Osceola County Courthouse:
- Register and receive a ticket at the marriage and passport registration window on the second floor.
- Select your marriage ceremony. If none are selected, the simple ceremony will be performed.
- If rings will be exchanged during the ceremony, hand your rings to the officiant.
- The marriage license will be recorded at the end of the ceremony and a copy will be given to the couple. Additional copies can be purchased.
- After the ceremony, couples and their guests can take photos in the wedding ceremony room. Inform your customer service employee if he or she would like to have a group photo taken.
- If you are participating in the HalloWedding, Valentines or Patriotic Group Wedding Ceremony and Reception:
- Register during your marriage license appointment and pay non-refundable fees
- Please arrive 1.5 hours before the ceremony to check-in, take complimentary photos, and receive ceremony logistics.
- Enjoy the ceremony and reception!
- You will receive the engraved copy of your marriage license at the end of the reception.
- If you are getting married at an alternative location:
- The officiant (pastor, priest, minister, notary, public, etc.) must complete, sign, and return the marriage license within 10 days of the marriage ceremony . The marriage license can be delivered or mailed to our office to be recorded in the Official Records. A certified copy of the marriage license will be returned to the couple once registered.
